Hugh Dixon, Owner/GM of the John’s Creek based semi-pro football team the Georgia Buccaneers, recently spoke to the kids participating in the 2010 Sharon Springs Youth Football Camp regarding the importance and effectiveness of “teamwork and dedication on the football field and in life”. He was one of several speakers slated to “kick-off” the 3-day event. Other notable speakers were fullback, Ovie Mughelli of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and Nick Setzer of the Georgia Buccaneers. Nick was the starting Strong Safety for the Bucs during their 2009 DSFL season where they made it to the League Championship in their very first season as a team. Although they finished runner-up to the Nationally ranked Chattanooga Steam, they quickly earned the respect of the entire league and the semi-pro world as well. The Buccaneers are the only first year team to advance to the Championship since the DSFL was formed 6 years ago. Setzer spent the day working with the kids on open-field tackling and pass coverage techniques. He also entertained the entire group of volunteer coaches and kids as well when he went up against Brian Finneran of the Atlanta Falcons in a classic “David and Goliath” type match-up. The Georgia Buccaneers offensive lineman, Michael Murphree, visited the camp on day 2 to help the volunteer Dads and other coaches continue to entertain and train the young boys. The Georgia Buccaneers are committed to giving back to the local youth sports programs through volunteering their time to help motivate the kids to work hard and never stop chasing their dreams, which is a fundamental liberty that the Georgia Buccaneers were founded on in 2008.
